迈阿密大学新校长

 格雷戈里 克劳福德博士是一名物理学教授, 在圣母大学担任副校长及教务长的职务,而他接下来在2016年的七月起将正式就任迈阿密大学的第22任校长。

Dr. Gregory Crawford, professor of physics and vice president and associate provost at the University of Notre Dame, will become Miami’s 22nd president on July 1st, following the retirement of President David Hodge.

“I am deeply honored to be the incoming president at Miami University,” Crawford said. “Miami is a very special place, with a unique mission and an extraordinary reputation.”

Crawford also has served as the William K. Warren Foundation Dean of Notre Dame’s College of Science. He has a doctorate in chemical physics from Kent State University. He has published more than 400 research and education publications, review articles and book chapters and holds more than 20 U.S. patents and patent applications.

Crawford, an Ohio native, joined Notre Dame’s faculty in 2008. He previously served as the dean of engineering at Brown University, where he had been a professor of physics and engineering. “Having spent my career at two institutions with a strong emphasis on undergraduate teaching and learning, focused on undergraduate research, scholarship and the creative and liberal arts, I believe Miami is a perfect fit for my experience, values and philosophy of higher education,” he said.

Crawford and Renate, who also holds a doctorate in physics from Kent State, spent three and a half days on Miami’s campuses talking with numerous groups of students, faculty, staff and community members. Crawford said that after spending several days at forums in Oxford, Hamilton and Middletown, he is even more enthusiastic about Miami’s future. “Renate and I are honored to follow the tremendous progress made under David and Valerie Hodge’s leadership during the past decade, and we see so much opportunity, passion and enthusiasm in the Miami community.”

He added, “We were truly inspired by the students, faculty and staff we met – their accomplishments, their passion for their work, their zeal for the institution – and the alumni who have such dedication and loyalty to their alma mater.”
